Did you know if your walls aren’t properly insulated you can lose about a third of your heat through them? With energy prices on the rise, this can result in massive costs and poor efficiency.

There are two main types of walls when it comes to buildings; cavity walls and solid walls. Of course there are other types of wall structure too, including concrete, steel-framed and timber-framed, amongst others.

Cavity walls comprise of two walls with a space in the middle. Usually the outer layer that you can see is made of brick or stonework and the inner layer is stone block. In-between these layers, cavity wall insulation can be added to help enhance a property’s warmth and energy efficiency.

Sometimes damp can build up within the cavity wall insulation. This is common if old wool insulation was used, the insulation was incorrectly fitted, or the external brickwork of the property has been poorly maintained. In these circumstances you’re best advised to have the insultation removed and re-fitted, using the latest in energy efficient products.

Why Remove Cavity Wall Insultation?

There are a number of reasons why existing cavity wall insulation might need to be extracted and replaced. Some of the most common include:

How To Extract Damaged Cavity Wall Insulation?

Cavity wall extraction can be used to remove a number of types of insulation materials. Some of the more common ones include Rockwool Mineral Fibre, Whitewool Glass Mineral Fibre, Urea Formaldehyde and Expanded Polystyrene.

The extraction process works like this:

This process will normally take a couple of days, depending on the size of the property. At the end of the process you’ll be in a position to either deal with any underlying issues such as dampness or have new cavity wall insulation installed.
